Business Planning - Beyond the Basics
Planning Your Real Estate Business
When we talk about business planning, oftentimes it's lead with things like I want to earn this much money a year. I need to sell this many homes.
Then we figure out, okay, these are the action items that I'm gonna do, day in, day out, week in, week out- my marketing plan- you're gonna create all of these great items.
But I think something that we miss oftentimes in that business planning setting is that we forget that there's more to it in our growth plan than just those lagging indicators that show up. The GCI we earn. The numbers of homes we sold. Contracts written. Listing appointments. There's more to our growth if we do plan to grow year in, year out.
There's this cover of this book that I have. It shows this house, this blank slate of a home, and it got me thinking about this some more.
So, we've put your GCI totals in here. We've put how many homes you wanna sell, and it's like an architect's drawing. You're starting to fill up the home. You're starting to add its flooring. You're starting to pick color. You're picking your cabinets.
But when you look at that home, when you've put the finishings in, it's still not a home yet, is it?
We still have things like paintings to go on the wall. We still have the doodads, the knickknacks. We still have the people and the memories to make this a home.
I want you to think about your about your business plan this way. It's not just about GCI and totals.
It's about what am I gonna learn this year to drive my career forward? Who am I gonna connect with that can help me do this? What books am I gonna consume and then take action on?
So, again, when you're considering your business plan, guys, let's look beyond that 'cause I promise you when you do that it'll feel more full.
Your career will fill up, just like that house does when we start putting in all of those other items.
