Tradition vs. Progression
We need a healthy mix of both in everything we do. Tradition keeps us grounded, progression moves us forward. Tradition is comfortable and familiar, progression pushes us into the uncomfortable unknown. Traditions create stability and expectations, progression keeps things fresh and exciting.
Do you lean more towards tradition of progression?
I wasn't raised with much tradition - no religion, no strong cultural background. Progression was my default - though hI've learned that constant progression/change without respect for tradition can leave you bouncing around life like a pinball.
As I've gotten older and started my own family and businesses, traditions help to create our shared culture and guide decisions. Traditions manage expectations. Traditions give us something to repeat and perfect.
It's a healthy mix of tradition and progression that is the key. Respect traditions, but be willing to change them or rewrite them when progression is needed. Honour the past - without being stuck in it. Move into the future but never forget the past.
